Two more details on the Ford Super Duty Ranger – wheels and tyres
Ford’s Super Duty Range tease continues.
Two new items:
1. wheels are 8 stud, 18″ steelies
2. tyre diameter 33″ all-terrains
The 8-stud, same as the F-250, is for load bearing and means the Leg Day Ranger crowd cannot run their favourite wheels. I guess it also means the rise of Fake 8 Studs to go with Fake Beadlocks.
As for the 33s, well that’s a good diameter but remember this thing has, according to the guy who sent me the spy shots, a huge rear diff so there won’t be a corresponding increase in ground clearance relative to Normal Duty Ranger.
Kind of surprised at the 18s not 17s, but if it’s part-time 4×4 then that’s up to 8000kg being pulled by two wheels so you’d want some decent rim-to-tyre contact. See my video on 17 or 19.5″ truck tyres for details on why that is important and why people converting to Super Singles with 37×17 have problems heavy towing. I hope the RSD is AWD.
That is all.
