Why Logan Sargeant crashed at Zandvoort in FP3 and what really annoyed Williams
We all know that Logan Sargeant had a pretty bad crash at Zandvoort during free-practice 3. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back, or more accurately snapped the last thread of James Vowles’ patience.
But I don’t think it was just the crash, it was the way the crash happened.
Look at the title photo. Where are the right wheel?
Yes, that’s right, on the grass. Damp grass. Gripless grass. That is why Logan lost control.
I suspect what really annoyed Williams was how avoidable the crash was. Logan could easily have avoided that grass, and should have know what would happen if he touched it. And it was in free practice.
Inexcusable at this level.
Look at this still. He’s straightened up from the corner, made no effort to get off the kerb and has plenty of time to steer left and regain the track.
But he didn’t. And now he’s gone from F1, almost certainly forever.
