Don’t fall for these common mobile weighing errors

You can, and should get your touring 4×4 or your towcar and caravan weighed to ensure you’re within legal limits.

A good way to start is to use my Towing Calculator to get an idea of weights, and to plan your changes or purchases. You can also use a GoWeigh weighbridge to weigh your car and trailer.

Or you can use one of the many mobile weigh operators. These operators will come to you, and weigh your vehicle, give you a report, and hopefully, explain what it all means.

However, it’s easy to get the weighing process wrong. In the video below I show what sort of errors can creep in, and how you can avoid them. We weighed my Ranger in a variety of situations – grass, slopes, off-centered wheels, wind and more – and noted the variation from its true weight. It wasn’t massive, but it did add up to more than the 1kg accuracy of the scales.
